The Bookkeeper is responsible for the day-to-day financial tracking and reporting of the Surf Ballroom & Museum. This role maintains accurate financial records, assists in preparing monthly financial reports, supports grant and audit documentation, and ensures timely payment of bills and invoices. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, trustworthy, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, nonprofit environment with evolving needs and deadlines. Key Responsibilities: - Maintain accurate records of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries - Process invoices, vendor payments, and employee reimbursements - Reconcile monthly bank and credit card statements - Generate standard financial reports (P&L, balance sheet, etc.) for internal use and board reporting - Assist with budgeting, cash flow tracking, and financial forecasting - Monitor restricted funds and grant-related expenses to ensure proper compliance and documentation - Support annual audit and tax preparation with outside accountants - Work closely with the CEO and in coordination with the General Manager and department heads to align day-to-day bookkeeping with the organization’s strategic financial goals - Maintain and update records in QuickBooks Online - Track ticket sales, concessions revenue, and other earned income in coordination with the box office and bar staff - Assist with filing and maintaining necessary financial documentation - Other duties as assigned in support of the Surf Ballroom’s financial integrity Qualifications: - 2+ years of professional bookkeeping or small business accounting experience - Proficiency in QuickBooks Online required - Strong working knowledge of Excel and Google Workspace - High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry - Understanding of nonprofit financial principles and fund accounting a plus - Strong organizational and communication skills - Ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion and professionalism Work Environment: This position can be performed on-site at the Surf Ballroom, with some flexibility for remote work as approved. Work hours can be part-time or full-time depending on the candidate’s availability and the organization’s evolving needs. Compensation: Competitive hourly rate commensurate with experience. This position may be structured as part-time or full-time based on organizational need and candidate availability. While no direct benefits are offered, a monthly healthcare stipend may be available to eligible employees.
